Ubitricity has installed 2,000 chargepoints across the London borough of Tower Hamlets in just four months.
The chargers have all been installed into existing lampposts on residential streets, providing residents with close-to-home public charging for their electric vehicles.
The first chargepoint was installed on 15 June 2025, with the Shell-owned company installing the 2000th on 2 October 2025, three months ahead of schedule.
Ubitricity worked with installation partner Volker Highways on the project. During peak installation phases of the project Volker installed over 76 chargepoints in one day.
The chargepoints are operated under the Shell Recharge network and take less than 30 minutes to install.
Stuart Wilson, UK managing director for Ubitricity, said: “We are confident that this is one of the fastest ever roll-outs of mass public charging infrastructure in the UK. This roll-out shows that local authorities can roll out much needed public charging infrastructure at speed and scale.
“Public charging infrastructure in the UK is quickly growing and we are proud to doing our part in that. According to Zapmap, as of 5 September 2025, there were 85,163 electric vehicle charging points in the UK, this roll-out alone accounts for 2% of that figure.
“We could not have done this without close co-ordination with Tower Hamlets council.”
