Drivers using car parks run by North Yorkshire Council will be able to pay for their stays using card, cash and app.
The council is planning to make a £2.5m investment upgrading facilities in over 170 car parks.
The core investment is in 430 solar-powered payment machines in car parks and on-street parking places.
A £400,000 programme to replace sodium lighting with new LED heads and ageing lamp columns where required to improve safety and security.
