Starmer proposes ‘Grey Belt’ to release space for new homes

Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer has unveiled plans to create a ‘grey belt’ land designation that will allow some parts of the Green Belt to be built on to help meet housing targets.

Developing the ‘ugly’ parts of the green belt he refers to could provide space for between 100,000 and 500,000 new homes, experts say.

The Labour leader said he wanted to create a new class of “grey belt” land earmarked for development that has few natural or aesthetic qualities....
