Wales has become the first nation in the UK to make 20mph the default speed limit on restricted roads. The change leaves only an estimated 3% of the Welsh road network, by distance, with 30mph limits, compared with 37% before Sunday’s implementation of the policy, but some 20mph roads are likely to revert to 30mph in light of experience.
