The Government has confirmed plans to introduce a replacement HGV 'green' levy in which carbon dioxide emissions, estimated according to the weight of the vehicle, and its environmental performance are taken into account, whilst ensuring that the levy liability is as closely aligned as possible to when a foreign vehicle is used on a major road.
The previous levy was suspended in August 2020 to support the haulage sector during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
