In September 2021, the UK Government launched its National Artificial Intellience (AI) Strategy with aims to ‘build on the UK’s strengths but also represents the start of a step-change for AI in the UK, recognising the power of AI to increase resilience, productivity, growth and innovation across the private and public sectors’.

Over the next ten years, says The Government, the impact of AI on businesses across the UK and the wider world will be profound, and UK universities and startups are already pioneers in building tools for the new economy.

Applications of AI and Machine Learning (ML) are already commonplace. AI transcribes my audio notes and videos into text, powers chatbots, automates facial recognition and voice instructions to phones and home devices, supports transport and planning software tools and supercharges data collection and analysis for transport models and forecasting. CAVs are on the horizon, and autonomous drones are already boosting last mile delivery options.

Opportunities for UK pioneers in Central and Eastern Europe, Feb 2023

Much of Europe acted back in 2018 to set up AI strategies, including central and eastern European countries, which are very keen both to develop their own capabilities and to import expertise from countries such as the UK. Hungary, for example, has developed a national AI language translation system – conscious that not many non Hungarians can speak Hungarian – known as the GPT3 model from the University of Pécs and the Hungarian Research Centre for Linguistics.

Working with the British Embassy in Hungary, Landor LINKS are pleased to be managing a UK delegation to the in-person AI EXPO in Budapest on 14 February 2023, organised to showcase the latest practical and policy developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI), including transport, data, modelling, jouney planning, traffic management, drones and aviation and energy planning and management.

This expo is specifically aimed at inviting UK and central European pioneers to find out more about opportunities in central and eastern Europe.

AI will become ubiquitous...

According to a research by scientists at the University of Oxford, AI will be better than humans at translating languages by 2024, writing school essays by 2026, selling goods by 2031, write a bestselling book by 2049, and be conducting surgeries by 2053.

In January 2022, the Government launched a new AI Standards Hub to create practical tools for businesses, bring the UK’s AI community together through a new online platform, and develop educational materials to help organisations develop and benefit from global standards. This will help put the UK at the forefront of this rapidly developing area.

The Hub is part of the UK’s new National AI Strategy. BSI, the UK National Standards Body, and NPL, the country’s national metrology institute, will share their world-class expertise in developing standards and research to deliver the pilot with The Alan Turing Institute, the national institute for data science and AI. The hub is backed by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Office for AI (OAI). 

The Hub will work to improve the governance of AI, complement pro-innovation regulation and unlock the huge economic potential of these technologies to boost investment and employment.

The Alan Turing Institute, supported by the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), will pilot a new UK government initiative to lead in shaping global technical standards for Artificial Intelligence.

UK delegation to AI EXPO: Budapest, 14 February

Working with the British Embassy in Hungary, Landor LINKS are pleased to be managing a UK delegation to the in-person AI EXPO in Budapest on 14 February 2023, organised to showcase the latest practical and policy developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI), including transport, data, modelling, jouney planning, traffic management, drones and aviation and energy planning and management.

The event organisers are the AI Coalition of Hungary, supported by the Hungarian Ministry for Technology and Industry. 

We are helping the British Embassy to organise a UK delegation of pioneering UK AI innovators to attend, and possibly present, at this conference, and to network with AI stakeholders from Hungary and neighbouring Central / Eastern European countries. 

Landor LINKS regularly works with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and British Embassies to facilitate exchanges of this nature.

All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for delegates. A full agenda will be circulated in due course.

The Hungarian Artificial Intelligence Coalition was established in October 2018, by Prof. Dr. László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology – who will be speaking at the event – to offer a community and forum for all stakeholders in the Hungarian AI ecosystem who wish to make an active contribution to the development of the Hungarian AI environment and skills. This expo is specifically aimed at inviting UK and central European pioneers to find out more about opportunities in central and eastern Europe.

14 February 2023:  International day, followed by an International Networking Dinner

15 February 2023: Optional visit to ZalaZONE, Automotive Proving Ground (a leading integrated Research & Development facility with a test track for autonomous vehicles), organised by the AI National Laboratory

The International day of the AI EXPO takes place on 8 February 2023. There are opportunities for experts to present on the following topics, to be discussed:
