Construction work has started on the £114m rail station at Darlington in County Durham. Buildings will be demolished to create more space beyond the existing station, with a bridge linking the old and new sites. Also planned are new platforms, interchange, concourse and multi-storey car park.
Car park pick-up and drop-off points on the western side of the station will be upgraded, with new road layouts and wider pavements to improve access on foot and by bike.
