Belfast backs free public transport for young people

Belfast councillors voted this week to ask the Northern Ireland Executive to pilot free travel for young people on train and bus services.

The original motion, proposed by Green Party councillor Brian Smyth, was amended to include free travel in black taxis. The Executive is already considering whether the existing concessionary travel scheme, for older and disabled people, should be applied also to black taxis (LTT 16 December).
