The House of Commons is to question ministers from the Department for Transport about the impact of Coronavirus on transport in the UK.

The session will take place on Tuesday 7 April as a virtual meeting broadcast by the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit. The witnesses and committee members will join the meeting remotely.

The session will available to watch live as there is no public or media access to Parliament.

MPs will ask transport minister Chris Heaton-Harris about the Department’s response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and the implications for various transport sectors. As news of a package for buses is expected soon, Baroness Vere will join the session.

This will be the second update that the committee has sought from Secretary of State in recent weeks. An informal discussion between the MPs and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps took place on 25 March.  A summary note of this meeting can be found by clicking here.

In May 2019, the Transport Committee published a report urging Government to set out a single strategy for bus services. Bus Services in England outside London, considered the health of the bus market and called on Government to set out clear ambitions to halt the decline in bus use.
