More than 630,000 vehicles are unlicensed

There are now 634,000 unlicensed vehicles driving on the UK’s roads, according to estimates made by the Department for Transport (DfT) following an observational study.

The current levels of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) evasion suggest that the Treasury is losing out on about £94m a year, said the RAC Foundation, which has analysed the figures.

The number of unlicenced vehicles equates to 1.6% of total vehicles in traffic, down from 1.8% in 2017. However, the proportion is still higher...
