Highland Council has taken over responsibility for parking enforcement from Police Scotland. Highland Council Parking Services was launched in 2016 to take over enforcement activities.

During 2016 it assumed responsibility for parking enforcement in local authority car parks and on-street in Inverness and Fort William.
