Clampdown on layby parking sees HGVs struggling to find truckstop spaces

The Ashford Truckstop in Kent had to turn away a record number of lorries on 30 October, the first night an 18-month enforcement campaign Kent County Council and Ashford Borough Council aimed to reduce use of laybys.

Lorries are not longer allowed to park overnight on the A20 between Charing and the Drovers roundabout. The ban runs from 8pm to 7am the following morning Monday to Friday. Vehicles flouting the ban are clamped and drivers have to pay a £250 fine to get the clamp...
