A North Somerset Council civil enforcement officer (CEO) had to call for police help after being threatened by a motorist he had issued a ticket to. The council, which introduced CEOs in April, says the incident was one of a series of threats made to its staff.
Besides abuse when on patrol, CEOs are being threatened via social media. The council and police are warning anyone abusing their parking enforcement staff that they could end up with more than just a parking ticket.
