Paul McCartney turned his encounter with a traffic warden into the exuberant and jaunty love letter ‘Lovely Rita’, which appeared on The Beatles’ classic album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Rita the Meter Maid, one of The Beatles’ most memorable musical creations, was brought to life as part of Liverpool’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of Sgt Pepper.
