A plan to remove free parking around the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading has been put on hold after an online petition launched by a midwife was signed by almost 8,500 people.
Reading Borough Council planned to introduce pay & display on streets surrounding the hospital as part of a wider scheme to manage pressures on residential parking in the area.
Some 625 spaces would have been subject to parking charges, with a further 741 spaces facing restrictions.
