Three British parking projects are competing for recognition in the European Parking Awards, with the winners to be announced in Berlin on 23 September.

Two refurbishment schemes are going head-to-head in the ‘Renovated parking structure category’. The remodelling of Bedford Borough Council’s Allhallows multi-storey by Makers Construction was named Best Refurbishment at this year’s British Parking Awards.

The reinvention of Westminster City Council’s underground car park in Cavendish Square as the Q-Park Oxford Circus is also competing. This project was commended in the British Parking Awards.

APCOA Parking (UK)’s work with local authorities across Britain tackling Blue Badge fraud is competing in the on-street category.

The European Parking Award is run by the European Parking Association with the aim of promoting improvements in public parking both on-street and off-street. The contribution of parking to sustainable urban mobility is a recurring theme in the awards, as are customer service and urban development.

This year 38 entries were received across five categories encompassing new build and refurbished car parks, on-street parking, innovations and marketing. All the short listed entries have been visited by a jury of experts.

Berlin will be Europe’s parking city

The role of parking in sustainable transport policy will be a theme running through the three days of the European Parking Association Congress, which takes place in Berlin between 23-25 September.

The congress is the biennial gathering of the European Parking Association (EPA), a network of national parking organisations which shares best practice and discussed parking policy. The UK presence in Berlin will be strong, with the British Parking Association being a member and London Council’s Nick Lester-Davis the EPA’s president.

The 17th EPA Congress, which host the European Parking Awards, takes place alongside Parken, Germany’s annual parking trade show. Over 100 companies are taking part in the Parken 2015 trade show, which takes place from 23-25 September and is free to visit. The event features parking management, technology and construction specialists.
