Helmet law would threaten bike-rail commuting

I refer to your article in which TRL suggests that compulsory wearing of helmets would not discourage cycling (‘Mandatory helmet law wouldn’t discourage cycling, says TRL’ LTT 25 Jul).

I can think of one situation where I would definitely be discouraged from cycling, and that is for journeys to and from railway stations where there is no provision for storage of cycle equipment. Whilst I generally do wear a helmet, there are occasions when I do not if to do so would involve me...
