A former parking security manager has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after admitting to stealing about £50,000 from his employer. Kristden Kinson tricked his boss Brian Cook into handing over money for bogus contracts.

Cook runs several car dealerships in Cornwall, and first enlisted Kinson’s help to turn one of his sites in Bodmin town centre into a car park. “I didn’t know much about the parking business, so I needed to employ someone with experience of managing car parks,” he said.

Cook made Kinson a 3% shareholder of his parking business KBT Cornwall Ltd, and said he told Kinson that once the firm was in profit he would get 33% ownership worth £1m. But, over an eight-month period, Kinson concocted a series of scams.

One of the biggest involved a fictitious contract to run 26 car parks across Cornwall for the Newlyn Harbour Commission. Kinson persuaded Cook to give him about £30,000 for pay & display machines.

Cook said: “Kristden Kinson is a convincing liar. He knows little else but the parking business and how to lie and con his targets, and when he is out of jail he will undoubtedly try to re-enter the parking and security business. I wish someone had put me on my guard!”
