Mother spared jail after children’s 40C ordeal in car

A mother who left her three children inside a car in Carlisle under blistering sunshine for 45 minutes has escaped a prison sentence. The children, aged between two and eight years, managed to raise the alarm by sounding the horn in temperatures up to 40C (104F) on 4 July.

The driver Kelly Marie Langham admitted three counts of neglect and the possession of amphetamines at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court. She was ordered to complete a one-year community order under the supervision of Cumbria...
