Roll-out of electronic ID for overseas workers

Compulsory identity cards for foreign nationals in the UK are being rolled out, with the first applications required from 25 November. Home secretary Jacqui Smith said the ID cards would protect against illegal working, identity fraud and reduce the use of multiple identities in organised crime and terrorism.
