Wolverhampton drops 'red route' pilot

Plans for a ‘red route’ in Wolverhampton have been abandoned after councillors voted against the advice of officers, who argued a pilot scheme had successfully reduced vehicle journey times.

The Conservative and Liberal Democrat groups who have jointly run the council since May have agreed to abide by their local election manifesto pledges to scrap the scheme.

The experimental red route on the A449 Stafford Road will lapse in September.
