Government ‘not rushing’ to reinstate cycling and walking target

The Labour Government is not committed to the previous Conservative administration’s target of 50% of local journeys being made by walking or cycling by 2030.

The Transport Select Committee asked Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander if the previous commitment still stood. She responded: “We need to be honest about the previous Government. They took £230m out of cycling and walking, and there was no way that they were ever going to get to that target for 2030.
