Concerns over self-certified older drivers raised at inquest

Woman died after being hit by vehicle in supermarket car park

A coroner will be writing to the transport secretary to raise concerns about self-certification of driving licences for people over 70 years old.

Assistant coroner Beth Brown made the statement while conducting an inquest into the death of a woman who was trapped under the wheels of a vehicle in a supermarket car park.

Rosemary Macandrew, 61, was visiting a Waitrose store in Newark, Nottinghamshire, when she was hit by a vehicle driven by Noel Maguire on 5 July last year.
