England’s long-running “postcode lottery of buses” will come to an end once the Bus Services Bill becomes law, the Government has stated. Under the new legislation, introduced at the end of last year, local authorities will be given the power to set up their own bus companies or work more closely with private operators.

Members of the House of Lords were set to discuss the main objectives of the Bus Services Bill at its second reading on 8 January.
