Plan to remove apostrophes from street signs ditched by North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire Council has scrapped plans to stop using apostrophes on new street signs after opposition from residents and language experts.

The council had previously announced that future street signs would not include punctuation because of problems with geographical databases. The installation of an apostrophe- less sign at St Mary’s Walk in Harrogate sparked local outrage, leading to international media coverage.
