Data sets for new developments overlook sustainable mobility

For most new developments, local authority officers are required to produce a traffic impact assessment, the SAC report notes. This provides estimates of peak hour traffic generation from the site and its likely impact on the surrounding road network. For smaller schemes, these estimates are taken from databases – such as the trip rate information computer system (TRICS) – that use data from comparable existing developments.
