Chiltern Railways has withdrawn its battery-diesel hybrid train between Aylesbury and London Marylebone, citing increasing technology costs. HybridFLEX, launched last year, was the result of a partnership between Chiltern Railways, Porterbrook and Rolls- Royce.

The project has been seen as a trail blazer to deal with the carbon footprint and emissions from diesel trains, and a major way of addressing commitments to remove all diesel only trains by 2040.
