DfT confirms BSIP funds can be switched to support existing services

Funding allocated to local transport authorities in England under the original Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) mechanism may now be used to support existing routes, if approval from the Department for Transport is obtained, DfT has confirmed.

This is a reversal of the original BSIP position which specified that funds could not be used “to prop up existing services,” as then buses Minister Baroness Vere put it.
