The Department for Transport is awarding temporary contracts for train operation which could last longer than the previous standard franchise term, while it continues to design the Passenger Service Contracts which were announced in May 2021.

A prior information notice informs the market that a planned direct award for CrossCountry will give the incumbent, Arriva, a core term of four years from 15 October 2023, with “available additional rail periods up to a maximum of eight years”....
