A new test track specifically designed for Very Light Rail (VLR) has opened in Dudley, West Midlands. The new track is part of a major investment, which also includes a £24m National Innovation Centre for VLR.
The 3km track runs along the alignment of the old Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway, which closed to passengers in the 1960s, although remained open to freight traffic until the 1990s. It has been constructed by Doncester based Trackworks Ltd.
