North wants transport infrastructure budget

Political leaders in the north of England are calling on the Government to agree a ‘Northern Budget’ to pay for road and rail infrastructure.

Transport for the North and council leaders want:

£7bn for a ‘Northern Infrastructure Pipeline’ of road and rail projects that could begin in the next five years;

£39bn for the whole Northern Powerhouse Rail scheme; and

£1bn for Transport for the North over the next three years, which would support...
