Two railway lines between Newcastle and Northallerton in North Yorkshire may need to be re-opened to passenger traffic to accommodate demand for services on the East Coast Main Line (ECML), according to the North East Combined Authority.
The ECML is four-track between York and Northallerton but only two-track between Northallerton and Newcastle.
