Previously I suggested that, rather than bemoan low concessionary reimbursement rates set by local authorities, a more positive way forward might be to see more appeals lodged by bus operators (Letters LTT 31 Mar). 

Mr Peddle corrected me (LTT 14 Apr), remarking that local transport authorities set the rate with regard to guidance from the DfT and that the appeal system amounts to the DfT “auditing its own guidance”. As well as being able to reject an appeal, the DfT can decide...
