The DfT and HS2 Ltd massively underspent against budget on the high-speed rail project in 2015/16, new figures reveal.
Total expenditure on HS2 was £359.8m, against a budget of £583m, an underspend of £223.2m, or 38%.
The DfT’s underspend was the greatest – its spending is for land and property acquisitions, which totalled just £113.2m against a budget of £305.9m.
