Transport for London has responded to criticisms that the New Bus for London (also known as the ‘Borismaster’) runs purely on diesel power for most of the time because of battery problems. The buses are said to be slow, sluggish and have poor acceleration.

Each bus cost £354,000 to build, which is around £50,000 more than ‘normal’ hybrid buses. They are all owned by TfL (and not by the bus companies); 500 are now in service, and 300 will join the fleet next...
