Accident is a misleading term for road collisions

Andrew Fraser says: “Those who would bully us into the blame the driver approach, which manifests itself in substituting the words ‘collision’ or ‘crash’ for ‘accident’... do us a considerable disservice,” (Letters LTT 15 May). I beg to differ.

A good definition of “accident” is an incidental and unplanned event that could have been prevented had circumstances leading up to the accident been recognised. This epitomises very well why,...
