A new 125mph railway linking the north of England’s five conurbations forms the centrepiece of a transport strategy proposed by the city regions this week.

The One North transport plan has been prepared by the city regions of Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield in response to HS2 Ltd chairman Sir David Higgins’ call for the Government’s high-speed rail plans to be rethought to   maximise benefits for the North (LTT 21 Mar).
