Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin this week spelt out the Government’s determination to press ahead with a high-speed rail network.
McLoughlin told the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham the Government was “committed to build a new line not just to Birmingham but on to Manchester and Leeds”.
