The release of both scheduled and real-time travel information by the UK rail industry as open data is raising the quality of service advice to customers and offers a prospect of new national and regional multi-modal journey planners interfacing the rail and equivalent bus systems.  The key is the rail industry’s DARWIN national real-time database.
