New TPE rolling stock order to piggyback on London Midland procurement

First TransPennine Express will introduce an additional 40 new carriages on its network using a procurement already underway for 40 carriages at London Midland, transport minister Theresa Villiers has announced. The first new carriages will be introduced from December 2013. Rolling stock leasing and operation will be funded by a £41m increase in DfT subsidy to the TOCs to the end of their franchises.
