Watford’s pioneering parking manager Linda Baker has retired after almost 44 years at the authority — she was the council’s longest serving employee. She joined the authority aged 16 as a trainee draughtsman, and some years later in the mid 1970s became a senior draughtsman.

Baker says her role at the council constantly evolved, often encompassing a range of administrative duties, including concessionary fares.
