Directly Operated Railways, the state-owned operator of the East Coast intercity rail franchise, today published its first Annual Report which reveals that the firm made a profit after tax of £1.2m between its incorporation in July 2009 and March 31 2010.

The firm has also revealed passenger growth of 3% over the period.
