Hi-tech rail listening device can cut costs

SWT, Siemens and Network Rail work together on trial

South West Trains, Siemens and Network Rail, have joined forces to pilot an innovative new system that can diagnose potential problems with trains by listening to them as they pass, and therefore help to reduce maintenance costs.

The system, called RailBAM, monitors 300 Desiro trains a day on the busy Wessex Route which carries South West Trains services between London and Weymouth.
