Luck of the Irish

Strike Breaking

24 March 2010

The recent British Airways strikes saw the much anticipated chaos become a whimper after a sizeable number of cabin crew reported for duty backed up by a flotilla of aircraft sourced from third party airlines. Surprisingly, three of those chartered planes belonged to Irish low cost airline Ryanair, which suspended its usual hostility against the British flag carrier to operate domestic UK routes from London’s Gatwick Airport.

For those booked on those flights they experienced a curious hybrid of service, with free food, drink and baggage service, plus allocated seating. But our spies tell us some Ryanair-isms did creep in, including a ‘tasteful’ jingle on landing announcing “yet another on-time Ryanair flight”.
