Nexus, the Tyne & Wear PTE, yesterday evening announced the name of a preferred bidder for a contract to operate trains and stations on the Tyne & Wear Metro on its behalf.
It will now finalise contract details with the bidder, Deutsche Bahn subsidiary DB Regio (Tyne and Wear) Ltd, to agree an operating concession of seven to nine years to begin on April 1 2010.
DB Regio beat off competition for the contract from an in-house Nexus bid led by Tyne & Wear Metro management.
