Bus back better: the need for quality roadside infrastructure - webinar, 9 Feb, 10.30 - 12.00. Speaker biographies

The Government's commitment to Bus Back Better needs to place much greater focus on investment in high quality, modern, well designed and attractive roadside bus infrastructure so as to improve the 'whole journey' passenger experience

10 January 2022

Roadside infrastructure such as bus shelters, bus stops and passenger hubs is the shop window for bus services, yet DfT's National Bus Strategy for England makes little reference to the vital role it plays in attracting passengers to use buses.

Innovative local authorities and bus operators now understand that well designed, modern, high quality, attractive and safe bus shelters and stops make all the difference for attracting new customers. This webinar will discuss:

  • Correcting an industry-wide lack of understanding and appreciation of the important role that roadside bus infrastructure can play in the future success of buses

  • The ‘customer experience’ begins and ends with the bus shelter – this is the part that the travelling public see, well before they experience the bus journey itself

  • Understanding the historic and significant lack of investment in quality, well designed, modern roadside bus infrastructure throughout the UK

  • How quality infrastructure can improve and transform the image of bus travel – thus increasing bus ridership and modal shift

  • How quality infrastructure helps to make streets, towns, cities and the bus service in general safer and more attractive

Chair: Louise Collins, Senior Stakeholder Manager, Transport Focus

Panellists:

  • Jonathan Morley, CEO, Trueform

  • Ivan Bennett, Transport Infrastructure Design Expert and former Product Innovations Lead for TfL’s Engineering Development & Research portal

  • Ed Griffiths, Director, Jedco Product Design
