‘Building Better Places’ guidance published

New Office for Place will be tasked with driving up standards of new developments

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) is being amended to reflect the government’s ‘Building Beautiful Places’ plan, which envisages the creation of tree-lined streets, use of sustainable drainage and designs that support walking and cycling.

The changes set an expectation that all councils should develop a local design code – an illustrated design guide that sets the standard for a local area – with input from local people.
