New leadership at ITS (UK)

Ryan Hood has been named chair of the Intelligent Transport Society, ITS (UK). Hood is strategic account manager at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). He took over from WSP’s Ian Patey at last month’s ITS (UK) AGM, which took place as a virtual meeting.

Hood told those attending: “These are interesting times to take over. I’m really looking forward to launching the ITS (UK) manifesto, which we have been working on in the strategy committee, and to lead the team to continue the great work Ian has done in increasing the relevance and influence of the Society during his time as chair.”

Karla Jakeman of Innovate UK has been appointed as vice chair. She is a former Honda product design quality engineer who has been with Innovate UK for more than five years and is its connected transport lead.

Jakeman said: “From its sharing of best practice to supporting women in ITS, young professionals and inclusive mobility, ITS (UK) is a force for good.”

The ITS (UK) Young Professional Forum itself has a leadership, with James Bullen from Atkins as its new chair, and Ashik Mohammed Nazar from Arup being elected as new vice chair. 

Nazar has committed to reaching out to young professionals in all organisations operating within the industry to better provide opportunities to broaden their network through effective collaboration at this stage of their career.

“I want to provide a platform that provides tangible benefits to the YPF members and generates interest among other young engineering aspirants to join the ITS industry,” he said. “With my experience to date, approachable character and passionate work-ethic, these objectives that I set out to achieve could be realised which, in turn, would benefit the wider industry.”
