Network Rail has announced that Andrew Haines will be its new chief executive. He will take up his role in the early autumn following a period of handover with current chief executive Mark Carne.

Haines will join Network Rail following completion of his current role as chief executive of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). 

He was appointed as a board member and chief executive of the CAA in August 2009 and for a further five years in August 2012. Prior to this he had a wide-ranging career...
