Motorists are causing serious incidents and near misses by driving into coned off areas where there are road workers, according to new research by Highways England.

On average, there are nearly 300 incidents a week of incursions as well as verbal and physical abuse reported by road workers.

Almost 3,500 incidents were recorded between July 2017 and September 2017, with 150 being classed as serious, leading to four road workers and two motorists being injured.
